Dear GSAPP Alumni and Friends,

The annual DesignIntelligence survey of America’s Top Ranked Architecture & Design Schools asks leaders and professionals in the field to share insight on the various academic programs and their ability to best prepare graduates for professional practice, and we are proud that Columbia GSAPP has been ranked #2 among the Top Architecture Graduate Programs five times in the past ten years.

If you are an architecture professional in a position of hiring or managing graduates, we hope that you will be able to participate in this year’s survey before the deadline of Friday, July 2. The survey carries significant weight among our prospective and current students as the only official ranking of US architecture schools, and we are very grateful for your time and feedback.

The recent Metropolis magazine “Future 100” issue dedicated to the top architecture and design students featured work by several GSAPP students including a beautiful cover image by Alek Tomich ‘21 M.Arch. Additional spreads highlighted projects by Yasmin Ben Ltaifa ‘21 M.Arch, Sushmita Shekar '20 MSAUD, and Guillermo Hevia Garcia '20 MSAAD.

The 2021 End of Year Show features student work that critically explores today’s most pressing issues at the intersection of climate, social and racial equity, and the impact of novel forms of technology on the built environment. Collectively, the work across media is a testament to the students’ creativity and inventiveness as they have advanced their research through constantly evolving hybrid working models. The ethos that permeates GSAPP student projects and the profound sense of community that continues to energize the School reveals an emerging generation of designers and thinkers—deeply empathetic and with a revised global outlook—who are poised to steer new directions for their respective fields.

In addition to the extensive online presentation, the 2021 End of Year Show included the realization of the Avery Spot. It is the result of a collaborative initiative for students to design, build, and program a temporary pavilion on Columbia’s campus as part of the Spring 2021 “Outside In” Seminar led by Professors Laurie Hawkinson and Galia Solomonoff.

Students in the M.S. in Advanced Architectural Design (AAD) and M.S. in Architecture and Urban Design (AUD) programs are graduating in August 2021!

Career Week will be held virtually and employers will have the opportunity to conduct virtual interviews, information sessions, and portfolio reviews.
