The 3D Canvas: A Place Based Approach to 3D Documentation and Storytelling - A lecture by John Ristevski
The photorealistic 3D model presents a compelling canvas for conveying a sense of place with the opportunity to layer stories from both the past and present to bring spaces alive for the viewer. The talk will examine a number of case studies that test this approach across different mediums as well as subjects ranging from natural landscapes to archaeological sites and contemporary structures.
John Ristevski is the chairman of the board and CEO of the non-profit CyArk. Previously he was the vice president of reality capture and processing at Nokia’s mapping company, HERE, where he led the company’s initiative to index reality. He joined HERE in 2012 through the acquisition of his company, earthmine, which developed systems to capture and deliver highly accurate street-level imagery and 3D data of cities. John Ristevski is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and has lectured at Stanford’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. He has an MSc from the University of California at Berkeley, USA, and degrees from the University of Melbourne, Australia, in both geomatic engineering and law.
