The Science and Artistry of Conservation - A talk by Amanda Thomas Trienens.
This presentation will focus on the experiences of a solo practitioner in the field of
architecture conservation through the lens of one case study, a modern concrete
sculpture. The presentation will cover the techniques used to investigate the
sculpture, its materials, and deteriorative conditions along with the creativity and
craft to restore the artwork.
Amanda Trienens is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia GSAPP and Principal of Cultural Heritage Conservation LLC. She earned a Masters Degree in Historic Preservation and an Advanced Conservation Certificate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Design. Her firm provides design development and treatment implementation expertise for historic structures, monuments, and sculpture. She is a Professional Associate with AIC and lectures and teaches throughout the country focusing primarily on the implementation of conservation treatments.
