Last week, many students and faculty participated in the annual Kinne Week, traveling to key sites to gather insights that will inform their projects for the remainder of the semester. With spring break taking place this week, there are no official events at GSAPP. We wish everyone a restful week and look forward to welcoming you back to campus for the second half of the semester.

• Sixty years ago, New York City passed the NYC Landmarks Law, designed to protect the city’s historic and architectural heritage. In honor of the 60th anniversary, faculty Jorge Otero-Pailos will moderate “What to Save? Landmarks for a New New York” at the Center for Brooklyn History. Monday, March 17, 6:30 PM.

• Marc Tsurumaki will deliver a lecture, “Biogenic Tectonics” in the University of Miami School of Architecture’s Technoglass Lecture Series titled “Vegetal Life.” Wednesday, March 19, 6:30 PM. Livestream available.

• Mabel O. Wilson will deliver the third of four lectures in her series, America’s Architecture of Freedom and Unfreedom for the A. W. Mellon Lectures in the Fine Arts at the National Gallery. The third lecture, “Wanted at the City of Washington. A number of slaves to labor…” reveals the history of how enslaved and free Black laborers became essential to Washington City’s transformation from a verdant patchwork of plantations to a monumental capital. • The American Academy of Arts and Letters has announced that Dean Andrés Jaque and Dean Emeritus Mark Wigley are among the recipients of its 2025 Awards in Architecture. Jaque will receive an Arts and Letters Award for his distinctive architecture “characterized by a strong personal direction,” while Wigley is recognized for his exploration of architectural ideas through “diverse mediums of expression.”

• Justin Garrett Moore ‘04 M.Arch MSAUD was named one of “The Curious 100,” a celebration of 100 courageous leaders and creative minds across the US presented by the Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity. Moore joins artists, authors, educators, and scientists in the “Protectors” category, defined by projects that tackle critical social issues through activism, creativity, and advocacy to protect and empower others.
