The PhD in Architecture Symposia invites doctoral students form across disciplines to submit proposals for the April 2–3, 2026 edition, titled On the Edge of Legibility: Architecture and Its Peripheries, that seeks to investigate and reflect on the histories of the built environment.

This year’s Symposia builds on ongoing research by GSAPP’s PhD cohort — including Ashraf Abdalla, Jude Abdelqader, Óskar Arnórsson, Ultan Byrne, Charlette Caldwell, Irina Chernyakova, Iván-Nicholas Cisneros-Rangel, Pedro Correa Fernández, Maur Dessauvage, Nicolay Duque-Robayo, Samuel Fox, Lucia Galaretto, James Heard, Kian Hosseinnia, Nur Jabarin, Alireza Karbasioun, Elena M’Bouroukounda, Lasse Rau, Malcolm Rio, Mahdi Sabbagh, Yara Saqfalhait, Beril Sarisakal, Javairia Shahid, Samuel Stewart-Halevy, Zachary Torres, Ife Vanable, and Benjamin Weisgall — whose work engages the shifting boundaries of architectural history and theory.

• Frankie Liu ’07 MSAUD, founder and principal of Atelier Glow Limited, receives an award at the 2025 World Architecture Festival in Miami for Reviving Rice Culture and Enhancing Rural Development, a project that transforms an abandoned primary school in Houyuan Village, Fujian, into a community hub centred on local rice culture and its surrounding landscape. • Faculty Amelyn Ng, along with Gabriel Vergara ’19 AUD and Christine Giorgio ’19 MArch (Friends Making Work), are selected among the 2026 Center for Architecture Lab residents. Their project, DEPAVE: An Ecological Repair of the Ground, examines how acts of urban depaving can support ecological, infrastructural, and social repair across New York City. The work will be presented in an exhibition opening at the Center for Architecture in May 2026.

• Faculty Kevin Hai Pham is announced as a winner of the Center for Architecture’s 2025 Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Travel Fellowship for his project “Mekong, Against the Current: Learning from the Mother of Waters”.

• Columbia GSAPP’s MSRED program is re-accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), reaffirming its alignment with international professional standards in real estate development education.
