We are pleased to announce the upcoming Career Services programming for the Spring 2021 semester. This semester will feature opportunities to develop your professional toolkit, including improving personal leadership skills with Executive Coach Patricia Hayling Price, refining your resume and portfolio, and connecting with alumni and prospective employers. We encourage you to log into Engage and complete your profile, search for opportunities, and use the document library to help you in your job search. One-on-one counseling appointments are also available through Engage to be scheduled at your convenience. Tuesday Talks continue through the semester, and the spring Alumni Conversations series continues on February 17. Stay tuned for updates throughout the semester!

We are especially pleased to welcome Karen Cover as GSAPP’s new Assistant Director for Career Services. In this role, Karen will work with students in our architecture and design programs to support the transition from the academic to the professional world by providing 1:1 student counseling, coordinating a breadth of programs, and engaging with employers seeking to hire from the GSAPP community. Karen joins Columbia with more than a decade of experience in higher education, including roles in the career offices of NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Pratt Institute, and Palm Beach State College. Karen is certified as a Career Coach and as a Professional Résumé Writer.

Students graduating this Spring are invited to register for an interactive Professional Leadership Intensive led by Executive Coach Patricia Hayling Price. These 3 hour workshops help you develop your personal leadership skills; attendance is strongly encouraged.

Ivy Hatsengate, Director of Advising and Strategic Projects at The Tamer Center for Social Enterprise, will host an information session for GSAPP students on the Social Enterprise Summer Fellowship Program for all non-graduating GSAPP students (students who will be enrolled as full-time students in the Fall 2021 term).

The Tamer Center’s Social Enterprise Summer Fellowship Program provides financial support to students engaged in summer internships that create social and environmental value.

The Tamer Center for Social Enterprise at Columbia Business School is now accepting applications for the Tamer Fund for Social Ventures. This fund provides seed grants of up to $25,000 to nonprofit, for-profit, and hybrid early-stage social and environmental ventures. Ventures must be led by Columbia University students, alumni, faculty or researchers, or be advised by and have significant involvement from Columbia University faculty or researchers. Tamer Fund seed grants will be made to approximately seven ventures each year. The spring application deadline is February 15.

Columbia GSAPP and CAA Arts Access proudly co-present a lecture with Michael K Chen ‘01 M.Arch, co-founder of Design Advocates and principal of Michael K. Chen Architecture (MKCA) with offices based in New York City.

Michael will present recent work by the group and his own firm’s civic-minded projects, as well as discuss the potential of citizen science, collaboration and craft and how these can serve both communities in need and the public good. Nash Taylor (MSRED/M.Arch, Class of 2022) will facilitate the conversation.
