Constructing Practice

Constructing Practice traces the narratives of 15 firms from around the globe that were established within the past 10 years. The daylong symposium features case studies and dialogues on designing, establishing, and maintaining a practice.

Speakers include the principals of Bruther, Paris; Case Design, Mumbai; GRAU, Paris; Local Studio, Johannesburg; Macías-Peredo, Guadalajara; MAIO, Barcelona; Max Nuñez (‘10 MSAAD), Santiago; O-office Architects, Guangzhou; People’s Architecture Office, Beijing; Ramos Castellano, Mindelo; Something Fantastic, Berlin; TERRAIN, Tokyo; Ultramoderne, Providence; Welcome Projects, Los Angeles; Zeller & Moye, Mexico City/Berlin.

Phu Hoang (‘99 M.Arch) and Rachely Rotem ('06 MSAAD), co-directors of the cross-disciplinary studio MODU, will discuss contradictions from their yearlong Rome Prize fellowship at the American Academy in Rome:
Weather is the same as time. A table for eating can become an indoor city. An incomplete structure should remain unfinished. Collective work is inseparable from individual learning.

The Columbia University Club of South Florida, in partnership with the Columbia Alumni Association, presents the 10th Annual Columbia Alumni Reception celebrating Art Basel | Miami Beach and Miami Art Week. Guests will have an opportunity to tour the museum and explore the galleries and exhibits, including the solo exhibition by Columbia University School of the Arts alumna, Mika Rottenberg.

The Architecture & Urban Design Mentorship Kick-Off Cocktail Party took place last month at the Chelsea offices of Ennead Architects. Thank you to all our alumni mentors who are volunteering their time and energy for the students!

The Columbia University Real Estate Development Conference took place on September 29 with keynote speaker Marc Holliday (MSRED ‘90), along with other leaders in the NYC and global real estate development world.
