National Museum of American Diplomacy in Washington, DC
Professor Jorge Otero-Pailos will be giving a closing lecture on Thursday, September 19th at the National Museum of American Diplomacy in Washington, D.C. The lecture will focus on the creative process and historical significance of the artworks in his exhibition, “Treaties on De-Fences,” currently on display at the museum. Otero-Pailos will discuss the sculptures he created from the steel fence that once guarded the embassy, an artifact he saved from the scrapyard because of its historical importance. He will also showcase limited edition prints inspired by diplomatic treaties between the United States and Norway, some of which are featured in the exhibition. The lecture promises an insightful exploration of the connection between art, diplomacy, and preservation, shedding light on how Otero-Pailos’ work captures and reinterprets historical narratives through his artistic perspective.
Please RSVP by September 13, 2024 if you would like to attend the lecture.
