Please join Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library on November 15th to celebrate the launch of New York Rising: An Illustrated History from the Durst Collection.
New York Rising, authored by GSAPP Associate Professor Kate Ascher and architectural historian Thomas Mellins, features contributions from noted scholars – including Columbia faculty Andrew Dolkart, Richard Plunz, Hilary Sample, Reinhold Martin and Lynne Sagalyn.
The Durst Collection, formerly known as the Old York Library, represents an exhaustive archive of materials documenting the city’s physical evolution amassed by developer Seymour Durst - patriarch of the Durst family, bibliophile and lover of New York City. The Durst family recently contributed this collection to Columbia’s Avery Library, where it has been digitized and made available to scholars worldwide.
