In February, GSAPP’s public programming and events takes many forms, beginning this evening with many of the collaborators gathering to discuss Feminist Spatial Practices and continuing with ACTIONING SUMMIT 6: How to bring science, spirituality and politics together (acknowledging indigenous knowledge); the annual Byard Lecture presented by Ricardo Flores of Flores & Prats Architects; Library is Open 16 with Kate Yeh Chiu and Jia Yi Gu; and many other events. This month also marks the re-opening of the Arthur Ross Architecture Gallery with the inauguration of Prospecting Ocean by Armin Linke.

The sixth ACTIONING SUMMIT will tackle the methodological questions that surround the uniting of different forms of knowledge with Marisol de la Cadena (UC Davis) and Elizabeth Povinelli (Columbia Department of Anthropology).

The ACTIONING SUMMITS are an unprecedented effort to affirm how architecture, planning, development, and preservation are anticipating desirable and alternative futures.

The ACTIONING SUMMITS are curated by Andrés Jaque, Dean, and Bart-Jan Polman, Director of Exhibitions and Public Programming and Curator of the Arthur Ross Architecture Gallery.

Columbia GSAPP is pleased to present the exhibition Prospecting Ocean by Armin Linke, a multimedia artistic research project that investigates the technocratic entanglement of industry, science, politics, and economics at the frontiers of ocean exploration. • Visit the 2024 Paris Photo–Aperture PhotoBook Awards exhibition at Printed Matter, which includes Columbia Books on Architecture and the City’s recent publication Into the Quiet and the Light: Water, Life, and Land Loss in South Louisiana by Virginia Hanusik. These titles represent “more than just the most highly produced, classically beautiful books,” write award organizers. “It is also an expression of the possibilities of bookmaking across a broad spectrum of resources, intentions, and storytelling techniques.” On view through February 25, 2025 at Printed Matter, 231 11th Avenue, New York, NY.

• Dean Andrés Jaque’s Reggio School named by Dezeen as most significant building of 2022 in their ‘21st-Century Architecture: 25 Years 25 Buildings’ series.

• Faculty Jorge Otero-Pailos and team, Atelier Oslo and Lundhagem, are awarded the Sundt Prize by the Oslo Architects’ Association for their preservation of Eero Saarinen’s former US Embassy in Norway. Awarded every two years, this prize honors “an architecturally outstanding private building built on Oslo City land.”

• Drawing as Thought a major exhibition of faculty Steve Holl’s work opens at the Tchoban Foundation Museum of Architectural Drawing in Berlin. February 7– May 4, 2025.

• The 2025 AIANY Design Awards include the works of GSAPP Faculty: Biogenic House Sections by LTL Architects (faculty Marc Tsurumaki) receives Honor Award in the Projects category and Memphis’s Tom Lee Park by Studio Gang and SCAPE (faculty Kate Orff) receives Honor Award in the Landscape and Planning category.
