The beginning of the Spring 2018 Semester was marked by an exciting announcement: Culture Culture by Christopher Gardner, Sharing Economy by Emily Po and Quentin Yiu (above), and Armadillo by Lizzy Zevallos have been selected as the three winning projects of this year’s inaugural Buell Center Paris Prize. This prize recognizes the work of Columbia GSAPP students whose studio projects most successfully address the terms and spirit of the 2015 Paris Agreement.

Additional February highlights include an upcoming talk by Dilip da Cunha, a lecture by AGENdA agencia de arquitectura, and a one-day conference entitled “Ways of Knowing Cities” featuring keynote lectures by Wendy Hui Kyong Chun and Trevor Paglen.

This one-day conference brings together leading scholars and practitioners from across multiple disciplines to consider the role that technologies have played in changing how urban spaces and social life are structured and understood.

Curated and designed by Mexico City-based architect Frida Escobedo, the exhibition No. 9 explores the history of La Ruta de la Amistad (Route of Friendship) in Mexico City, a monumental public sculpture project that was launched as part of the cultural program for the 1968 Olympics. Presenting archival research and a new sculptural installation, the exhibition probes the optimism and underlying contradictions of this ambitious convergence of artistic vision, urban development, and international diplomacy.
