Dear GSAPP Community,
Wherever you are, I hope the summer is providing some space and time to reenergize and explore. Fall is not far on the horizon and, as with each new academic year, anticipation abounds. Let me update you on a number of much-welcomed changes as we ready the School for another exciting term.
Over the last few months, we have been able – through concerted efforts – to attract a talented group of administrators to GSAPP. They are now working in the School’s offices and individual programs, and you will see
here a brief profile of each. A big welcome to all! Our administrators are the unsung heroes, working largely behind the scenes to support students, faculty, and the GSAPP community. Having key offices fully staffed has been particularly challenging, the consequence of a pandemic-related hiring freeze in the University and current labor market dynamics. Thanks to many across the School for recruiting and onboarding our new colleagues. You can find more information about GSAPP Administration
online.
In recent years, the School has been ramping up career services for students. Administrators across programs have joined forces to host professional development activities. When the Fall semester starts, the 300-level mezzanine space in Avery Hall will become a dedicated career service office where students can have one-on-one consultations, small workshops, and other resources. More details about the range of support through career services can be found
here. Crossing over to Buell Hall, faculty will be able to access a lounge area on the ground floor, for some downtime and meeting space. This Buell South Gallery Lounge will be in use on a first-come, first-served basis, given its moderate size. Global supply chain issues may pose some difficulty to our plan for these spaces, so we will appreciate your patience.
With the ongoing challenges in the world around us, GSAPP will continue its long legacy of excellence as an urban condenser of ideas. Change is a vital part of this legacy, something that I hope we will embrace with an open mind. Stay well and healthy, and enjoy the last month of summer.
My best,
Weiping Wu
Interim Dean
