Dear Class of 2023,

We are thrilled to celebrate your accomplishments in the company of many family members, loved-ones, and friends as well as the faculty, mentors, and peers you have met during your time at GSAPP. This is a special moment when you may feel a complex mix of emotions, but happiness by far exceeds any other. What you have achieved during your time at Columbia is remarkable!

As a School we are proud to have a very diverse ecosystem of individuals who represent different ideas, geographies, and interests. What unites you – the Class of 2023 – is the intelligence and sensitivity you bring to everything you do, the ability to critically interrogate how we work, and your deep understanding of the histories that have shaped our realities and that make the world a place worth living – where it is possible for the entirety of societies and ecosystems to live in mutual care.

Each one of us is a part of many different communities, and you came here from different parts of this city, from all over the country, and from around the world. As you prepare to now infiltrate the world with your ideas and actions, you know that you will always remain part of this School. We will be here for you and look forward to sharing your journey.
