From Land Conservation to Urban Resiliency: the role of nature, nonprofits, and corporations in building healthy cities

To protect nature, cities cannot be an afterthought. The global environmental nonprofit organization, The Nature Conservancy, is investing in cities for people and nature to thrive. In this conversation, Tito Rinaldo will discuss The Nature Conservancy’s trajectory from a traditional land conservation nonprofit organization to an actor in the urban conservation movement. Through an overview of natural solutions for a range of challenges faced by cities, and an exploration of nonprofit and corporate partnerships, we will explore current trends in urban conservation.

Tito Rinaldo is a Manager, Corporate Engagement for the Global Cities team at The Nature Conservancy. In this role, Tito works closely with corporate partners in identifying and delivering context specific nature-based solutions to urban problems. Prior to joining The Nature Conservancy, Tito worked for the Citi Foundation where he helped manage their Urban Transformation and Sustainable Cities grant portfolio. Tito received his B.S. in Urban and Regional Studies from Cornell University and has a M.S. in Conflict Resolution, with a focus in Environmental Conflict Resolution, from Columbia University.

The Lectures in Planning Series (LiPS) is an initiative of the Urban Planning program at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
