Moving on from GSAPP Urban Design (virtual)

Sooner or later, GSAPP grads will be looking for a job. Along with Career Services, the UD program brings our Alums to campus or zoom to offer a glimpse onto their paths into practice, however they define it. They will touch on various points of this process including getting materials together, considering various types of firms and sectors, interviewing, dealing with new professional hierarchies, engaging with co-workers, bosses, clients, and communities and, of course, doing the work.

Brandie Lockett is the Urban Design Director for Houston METROs Urban Design Division and a visiting critic at Rice University School of Architecture. Before METRO, Lockett spent five years as a senior urban designer at Gensler-LA’s Urban Design Studio, collaborating with agencies and organizations to create resilient, livable, and healthy places.

Julio Cedano is a Senior Designer at Studio Gang where he is currently the project lead for a 50-acre Master Plan on Chicago’s South Side. Prior to Studio Gang he was Lead Urban Designer for the City of Detroit’s Planning Department where he oversaw the development and coordination of neighborhood framework plans.

*Antonia Medina Abell has been at Gamble Associates for three years. She has over six years of experience in a wide range of scales and geographies; including industrial architecture projects in Santiago de Chile, and residential, commercial and urban projects in the Midwest and East Coast. Antonia holds a professional degree in Architecture from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University.

Praditi Singh is an urban designer at Gensler in San Francisco and focuses on creating inclusive mixed-use urban environments and transport infrastructure in the Bay Area. Employing mapping and data analytics, she critically examines conventional representation and collaborates with diverse professionals to understand legislative dynamics. Committed to community empowerment, she partners with HBCUs and economically disadvantaged indigenous communities, amplifying design narratives.
