Criminal Justice: Space and Policy

Fri, Nov 11, 2016    1:30pm

Don Clinton
Partner, Cooper Robertson
Sam Sinyangwe
Co-Founder, Campaign Zero | Mapping Police Violence Response by Urban Design Students

The American criminal justice system is inseparable from urban life. Cities and towns across the country face conflicting demands on policing, incarceration and policy-making. In this discussion, an architect – Donald Clinton – and a data scientist and activist – Sam Sinyangwe – will focus on the ways the criminal justice system affects the daily life of citizens and communities. Urban design students will respond to the speakers and discuss ongoing studio research in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Donald Clinton, AIA, MRAIC, LEED AP, is a partner at the architecture and urban design firm Cooper Robertson. He leads the firm’s collaboration with medical and research institutions and is currently working with Dutchess County on a project to expand the county’s jail, located in the city of Poughkeepsie.

Sam Sinyangwe is a data scientist and policy analyst, a member of the Movement for Black Lives. Sinyangwe has co-founded Mapping Police Violence and Campaign Zero, a platform of policy solutions to end police violence.
