Designing for Action: Architecture + Urban Design Summer Lecture Series

Fri, Jul 17    2pm

David Vega Barachvich (WXY)

David Vega-Barachowitz is an Associate Principal and the Director of Urban Design at WXY studio, where he leads the firm’s urban design, master planning, and mobility practice. At WXY, David has led several of New York City’s most complex and ambitious planning efforts, including the NYC Greenways Plan, the Brooklyn Marine Terminal Master Plan, the BQE Corridor Vision, and the Meatpacking District Public Realm Plan. Beyond New York, David focuses on strategic master plans focused on downtown public realm revitalization, including the Toledo (OH) Glass City Riverwalk, the Columbus (OH) Linden Green Line, and the Reconnect Empire State Plaza Master Plan. Prior to joining WXY, David was a former Senior Urban Designer at NYC Planning. He also served as Director of the Designing Cities Initiative at the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), where he spearheaded the production of NACTO’s Urban Street Design Guide and Urban Bikeway Design Guide, leading guidebooks that transformed how city agencies across the country approach street design practice. David is the author of Start-Up City, which he wrote with Gabe Klein. He holds a Master of City Planning from MIT and a bachelor’s degree in urban studies and architecture from Columbia University.
