Daniel Windsor is an urban designer and certified planner who leads the Urban Design and Planning Studio for Perkins+Will’s New York Office. A Senior Associate and LEED Accredited Professional, Daniel is committed to expanding sustainable ideas into the public realm and across larger scales with a particular commitment to how our built environments affect our health. His portfolio contains countless projects across the region varying in scale and urban context. His interests in City Design, Large Scale Mixed-Use, Health District Planning and Urban Manufacturing outline his passion for complex evolving urban systems. By identifying a framework based on good city design and sound sustainable planning principles, Daniel strives to create enduring places of beauty that transform our everyday lives. As a planner Daniel has worked with both public and private clients to build networks and enhance the public interface that make our cities great and healthy. His technical approach balances data driven solutions with aspirational and transformative visioning. Daniel is also part of the 2017 Perkins+Will Leadership Institute Class, in which he is one of only 15 selected throughout the global practice aimed at advancing the firm into the next generation.

Part of the UD Sessions event series organized by the M.S. Architecture and Urban Design program. In the evolution of the discipline of urban design, one of the most intensively discussed questions has been the definition of the discipline itself: What is Urban Design? Rather than a concrete answer, however, this series explores an expanded field of urban design through the lens of people who graduated from GSAPP’s Urban Design program in recent decades. Through their current work and a reflection of the ways in which their experience at GSAPP shaped their thinking about design, cities and politics, the series will open a dialogue about What Urban Designers DO?
