Nahyun Hwang and David Eugin Moon of N H D M will present selected recent work of their practice, research/ teaching initiatives, and will discuss the agency and opportunities of architectural propositions in considering the new meanings and formats of collectivity in the contemporary milieu.
N H D M is a New York Based collaborative practice for design and research in architecture and urbanism led by its partners Nahyun Hwang and David Eugin Moon. The studio aspires to an expanded practice of architecture, and works between disciplinary borders at vastly varying scales, engaging diverse modes of practice from built design work to highly speculative projects and research. Each project uniquely investigating under-explored or under-articulated spatial concepts in the context of the cultural, political, and economic complexities of the contemporary built environment, the work aims to be analytic yet anticipatory.
The work of N H D M has been widely exhibited and presented at global venues, including the 5th and 6th International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam, the 14th International Architecture Exhibition at the 2014 Venice Biennale, and the Fondazione Musica per Roma among others, and has been recognized through publications, grants, and awards including the I.D. Design Distinction, multiple AIANY Design Honor awards, and a New York State Council of Art Grant. Prior to founding N H D M, the partners contributed to a wide range of built and speculative projects - Hwang at James Corner Field Operations as one of the lead designers of the High Line, and Moon at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam among others. The partners teach design studios and seminars at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation.
