Maarten Gielen is designer and researcher. He is part of Rotor, a cooperative design practice that investigates the organization of the material environment. The group curated OMA/Progress, a large exhibition on the work of OMA, at the Barbican in London as well as Usus/Usures, the belgian pavilion at the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale. Together with Lionel Devlieger, Maarten Gielen was curator of the 2013 Oslo Architecture Triennale, Behind the Green Door – architecture and the desire for sustainability. In 2012 he was appointed visiting professor in the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD). Maarten Gielen was the winner of the 2015 Jonge Maaskantprijs. In the past few years he has been active as project manager of Rotor Deconstruction, a spin off that organises the dismantling of buildings and the reuse of building components.
