Phu Hoang

Phu Hoang is a Vietnamese-born American architect whose work bridges architectural practice and design research. As Founding Principal of MODU, he advances climate-responsive design at the intersection of architecture, urbanism, and interiors. He is the recipient of the Rome Prize in Architecture from the American Academy in Rome and the Emerging Voices award from the Architectural League of New York. He co-authored Field Guide to Indoor Urbanism, included in the collection of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum Library.

His design and research initiatives have received support from the U.S.–Japan Creative Artists Fellowship of the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. He is Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia GSAPP and previously served as Head of the Architecture Section at The Ohio State University’s Knowlton School. He also taught at Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania. He is a licensed architect in New York and President of the Society of Fellows of the American Academy in Rome.
