Tim Yoshimura Small

Adjunct Assistant Professor

Tim Yoshimura Small is a creative spatial practitioner based in New York City. At the moment, he is an adjunct assistant professor in the M.S. Urban Planning program at Columbia GSAPP, and a project engineer at EverGreene Architectural Arts. In his personal practice, he creates intimate multimedia collages grounded in counter-mapping and data archaeology. His artistic and research interests lie at the crossroads of archival data methods, advocacy-driven historic preservation, and critical urbanism.

Previously, he was the Climate & Sustainability GIS Fellow at Bloomberg Associates, where he published the 2024 update to London’s Climate Risk Maps, and supported large-scale mapping and consulting efforts for London’s new Clean and Healthy Waterways initiative. There, he led mapping and data workshops with entities including Thames Water, the BFI, and the London Wildlife Trust. He has five years of prior experience as a staff data analyst and engineer in the games industry.

Tim received his Master of Science in Urban Planning from Columbia GSAPP. He also holds a B.Sc. in Physics + Mathematics and an M.A. in Digital Media from the University of British Columbia.
