Aurash Khawarzad

Adjunct Assistant Professor

Aurash Khawarzad is an urban planner with extensive experience working in New York City. His work brings together mixed methods of quantitative and qualitative research, with a strong emphasis on cartography and visual analysis, to support community-based planning. He focuses on citizen-informed data to illuminate social, environmental, and spatial disparities in cities. His most recent project involves mapping average temperatures across Manhattan to inform energy policy, guide climate-resilience strategies, and support sustainable development initiatives. He is currently enrolled in the Geography program at The Graduate Center in New York City, where he is writing his dissertation on the social ecologies of the Manhattan waterfront. His broader portfolio includes writing, design, and applied research, which can be explored here.
