Mariam Arwa

Ph.D. in Architecture

Mariam Arwa is a Doctoral Student in Architecture at Columbia GSAPP. Her research examines architecture as a technology of statecraft, with particular attention to Iraq and the forms of foreign development through which political and economic ambitions acquire material and spatial form.

Arwa’s research emerges from a practice spanning architecture, exhibitions, archives, editing, and teaching. She has worked across architectural and cultural institutions, including MoMA, the UAE National Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, and Log. These experiences inform her interest in how architectural knowledge is produced, mediated, curated, and circulated.

She holds a B.Arch from the University of Sharjah, a postgraduate degree from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia’s Open Thesis of Fabrication (3D Printing Architecture), and an M.Arch II from Princeton University.
