All-age Community Center, secretly designed for the elderly

Although seniors make up the majority of Flushing immigrants, problems exist within their living environment, and the lack of activity space has brought many conflicts. To improve the quality of space, this project proposed a system along Main Street providing multiple activities in three architectural scales responding to the current narrow and long lot.

The small scale provides space for senior sports, the medium scale includes retail, and the large scale is a senior center mixed with muti-generational activities to promote intergenerational communication.

The spatial strategy consists of a core, semi-space, and void. The core is the vital element, divided into vertical-circulation and senior-activity. The semi-space is for muti-generations. Using movable walls, the size and arrangement of the space can be easily changed according to the use. The void is the gap bringing light and ventilation, adjusting the temperature in all seasons.

The outstanding performance in thermal and energy efficiency of cross-laminated timber ensures the architecture is in a low-carbon and eco-friendly status.
