Under one roof : Material Factory

This project aims to explore the factory as a complex, essentially linking workflow between projects that are distributed across BT, in an attempt to bring back the intermodal complex that used to exist here. Openings on the ground are made in response to the motion of materials that are coming in and going out. Hence different scales of opening are oriented towards the 3 nodes of the network: rail, water, and road. Connections are constructed through the landscape, making the ground rigorously programmed for the public with outdoor spaces becoming an extension of the workplace. There is an intention to let the products that are being produced in the factory dictate and inform the tectonics of the bldg. material. This building’s form is essentially the multiplication of the ground that’s made of recycled concrete with recycled plastic aggregate. Structure interacts and engages with the deep landscape. The plenum which is essentially an inverted beam acts as a filtration system. Columns aid not just in the movement of structural load but also the movement of nature, bringing methane from the landscape as exhaust and the transfer of water from the roof to the detention tanks at the bottom.
