Sara D. Roosevelt Park is a significant public space with dense foliage and traces of diverse immigration histories. However, instead of providing a public open space for people to stay and hang around, the lack of accessibility and safety hinders interaction between local residents. The goal of the design is to provide an accessible and more inviting gathering space for students and visitors by blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior. The organic form and the high transparency of the design blur the boundary, creating a close connection between the inside of the building and the surrounding environment. Inside, the spaces are divided by concrete walls and glass partitions that intersect to create different levels of transparency. The inherent beauty of green plants is deliberately planted in its interior space as one of the most significant interior elements. The project brings the natural element of the park inside the building to create a safe and stress-free environment to read and interact.
