PostSportsplatz Reimagined is a project that aims to transform a single-use, high-impact sports field with poor edge conditions and steep topography into a welcoming center for the community. The redesigned site seeks to blend into the existing city fabric, serve all ages and abilities, and is active throughout different times of day, week, and year for various purposes.
The redesign challenges the traditional notion of integration, inclusivity, and versatility from both physical and programmatic levels. A key feature of the new design is the introduction of a joint pedestrian and bike path that links the east and west sides of the site, making PostSportsplatz more accessible to the public. The mixed-use corner of the site adds a diverse range of amenities, including a community center, amphitheater, gallery, screening room, market, and co-working space, among others. The public bathhouse introduces the sense of water, public walkways, and splash plazas to the site, providing opportunities for low-impact activities such as bathing and swimming. The regeneration of the residential corner challenges the conventional notion of access and introduces an accessible public roof, a greenhouse for residents, a community center, and winter gardens that improve the circulation and connection of the site.
Overall, the reimagination of the PostSportsplatz aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive public space that promotes indoor and outdoor connectivity, intergenerational interactions, and healthier lifestyles for everyone in the community, regardless of age or ability.
