The Lower East Side of New York, across the street from Public School Anna Silver, is home to a once-forgotten empty lot that was converted into the impromptu “Children’s Magical Garden” from a voluntary community-driven effort. This new project seeks to provide a physical space for the garden that can take on different programs over time, serving both the children and the neighborhood. This construction utilizes what is forgotten in New York and maintains the understanding that the lot will eventually be employed by the city. By providing a flexible and adaptable space to the communities changing needs, this project offers a unique opportunity to explore the complex relationship between permanence and impermanence in urban environments.
