The January 6 attack on the United States Capitol saw rioters damaging the inauguration platform. This incident stripped the platform of its symbolic value, prompting a redesign project that would mark the January 6’s trauma and re-emphasize the importance of peaceful power transition.
The redesign comprises three essential elements: circulation, camera positions, and smoke. The circulation of the outgoing and elected presidents will be restructured. The two presidents will shake hands in this presidential platform under the spotlight, marking the peaceful transition of power.
The camera positions will be adjusted to enhance the presentation of the ceremony for TV viewers. Camera rails will be added on top of the structure and on the camera tower so that they can move along the designated path.
Smoke devices are designed and smoke will be released during the ceremony to symbolize the tear gas from the attack.
The redesign aims to celebrate the peaceful transition of power while acknowledging the trauma of January 6. It will improve the presentation of the ceremony for TV viewers while preserving its symbolic value. Ultimately, The new design serves as a reminder of the nation’s commitment to peaceful transfer of power and its resilience against violence or chaos.
