Culturally Sensitive Park for Chinatown Elders

In New York’s Chinatown, an immigrant community, the demographics are changing significantly. The region is experiencing a significant aging trend as young, second-generation immigrants increasingly relocate, resulting in a rapid increase in the elderly population. This transition brings unique challenges, including increased isolation among older residents, which is often exacerbated by cultural differences. The project focuses on a park strategically located at the intersection of Chinatown and the Manhattan Bridge. The aim was to transform this space into an attractive, culturally sensitive environment that enhances seniors’ quality of life and social participation.
