MAINTAINING COMMUNITY

The residents use, care for, and, when necessary, repair the communal spaces, the buildings, and the gardens to provide a self-maintaining system. The mechanical systems and the interior and exterior finishes are hardy and require minimal upkeep with simple repairs. The communal and living spaces are non-prescriptive - they do not predetermine the use of themselves but encourage the fluid and heterogeneous use by those who live there. We are not only preserving the pre-existing qualities of the site: small nooks, lots of light, and a cohabitation of residents and plants - but also enhancing them into a self-sustaining and adaptable community.
