SPATIAL DISPARITIES: ASSESSING OIL WELL DISTRIBUTION IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY

This project examines the distribution of oil wells throughout Los Angeles County and their impact on vulnerable communities. It specifically focuses on neighborhoods where there is a significant overlap between active oil wells and communities of color. The primary objective of this study is to illuminate how the built environment, both historically and presently, disproportionately affects Black and Brown populations in LA County. By mapping and analyzing these distributions, the project seeks to highlight the ongoing environmental and social challenges faced by these communities due to the proximity to oil extraction activities.
