Ironbound Air Garden

Student(s)
Faculty
Maria Alejandra Linares Trelles
The Ironbound Air Garden directly addresses the toxic footprint that is derived from the waste management facility in Covanta Essex located in Newark New Jersey, Ironbound district. The consequential erasure of visual pollution that is conducted by the facility also erases the voice of the local community where the plant resides because there is no visual evidence of pollution while dire physiological consequences are occurring within the community. The project seeks to visualize the air pollution through a reactive facade while simultaneously cleaning the toxic air to provide a haven for the community to gather and breathe clean fresh air.
