We believe architecture transcends boundaries—public and private, individual and collective, functional and expressive. Our project draws on the concept of layers: elements that connect and transform, creating vibrant rhythms of interaction. Inspired by Harlem’s cultural legacy, where jazz and performances united communities, we see architecture as a platform for shared expression. Everyday spaces become stages, and transitional zones evolve into dynamic places of activity and connection through overlapping layers. These layers bridge urban, building, and unit scales, seamlessly linking individual spaces with the public realm. The shifting and stacking of units create in-between spaces that act as extensions of private living while inviting communal interactions.
More than functional connectors, these spaces foster creativity and community, transforming housing into a theater for everyday life. By embracing the interplay of culture and connection, we envision homes that bring people together, celebrating the richness of shared experiences.
