From the flowerbed, fountain to City Hall, the authority stands. Lifting the garden, a new spatial dialogue is introduced to the park. Take a walk uphill, and we find space to let light, air, water, and life unfold. The surface is then redefined through a grid system, an echo of the urban grid. The lifted ground breaks, unfolds and reforms to become a place that allows life to unfold. “Little monsters"—miniature habitats—nest among the garden, where the built world and living beings intertwine. The monsters, the garden itself has its life, and we gave them the names to encourage everyone to see the architecture as a participant of life. We glimpse the roots from the side of Mendels, where plants flourish. The megaphone Bell carries voices across the tunnel. Manhattan is both tower and tree—a home for birds, a collector of rainwater, offering life to creatures below. Beside the public fountain, MLK and MLK Jr. serve as small apartments, sheltering the animals through the seasons.McQueen feeds the birds and squirrels, providing a canopy for those resting beneath it. We can wander the ramp, take the steps, climb the ladder, or linger on the ground to enjoy the happenings around. To see and be seen, to feel and be felt, to touch and be touched, to hear and be heard—these moments happen here. The walk pauses, allowing life to emerge in its own time.
