Soft Pink, Deep Blue: Restoring Balance Between Land and Sea

Soft Pink, Deep Blue is a design proposal set in the salt flats of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, a landscape shaped by extraction, rising sea levels, and fading cultural practices. The project responds to environmental and social crises by reimagining simple tools like wind and water wheels as systems of care. These elements manage saltwater flow, support mangrove regeneration, and reactivate salt harvesting in slower, more reciprocal ways. The design engages multiple layers including ecological restoration, cultural memory, and economic resilience, while revealing the often-invisible systems that connect land, labor, and loss. Through subtle movements and cycles, the project transforms a vulnerable landscape into a space of renewal and balance.
