Project by Penghand Pan, Shuyang Fang, Shengguang Zhou

Our project addresses the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles. Starting from its rapid spread from Altadena’s wilderness to urban areas, we reimagines the forest–urban edge as a resilient transition zone. At Highland Search Park, we propose a network of forecasting stations, water towers, and bathhouses, connected through circulation pathways that deliver collected rainwater back into dry riverbeds. This system functions both as prevention—providing early warning and accessible water during fire season—and as recovery, offering underground shelters and ecological renewal through agriculture and biodiversity preservation. By layering heavy underground infrastructure with lighter ground-level programs, we create a “village-like” landscape that strengthens community resilience while restoring the ecological balance between wilderness and human settlement.
