Wearable Birdhouse

Project by Carolena Bastiaan Beatley

In order to protect the environment and successfully fight for its wellbeing we must first connect with it and observe its magic. What could be more magical than watching a bird fly or listening to a birdsong? Like many things in the natural environment around us we take birds for granted and often forget about their existence because of our lack of interaction with them. We must find ways to individually connect with our natural environment and the creatures we share it with. We can no longer allow it to simply be something we pass on the sidewalk or look at through a window.

The mask of birdhouses forces the user to observe birds and almost blend into the bird’s environment. It allows the user to understand birds in ways impossible to learn from a book.
