Project by Haoming Zhu (Judy)
This project transforms the existing building into an Irish American Fashion Museum and Design Institute, using clothing as a diplomatic cultural medium to unfold intertwined narratives of identity, labor, gender, and contemporary creative industries. Through exhibition halls, textile workshops, and design studios, the project constructs a continuous system of learning and production. The design is grounded in the concept of ‘weaving history,’ re-texturing the building while preserving its structural order. By introducing fabrics of varying textures, the interior spatially negotiates the tension between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary fashion. In the juxtaposition of museum and design institute, old and new, display and production flow into one another. Textile studios remain open to the public, while student work enters the museum shop, forming a cycle from making to exhibition to re-production. Through this loop, fashion becomes an active cultural medium that continuously generates new energy within the city.
