Greenhouse

This ADU was designed with the goal of creating a space where fruits and vegetables could be grown year round and the house could adapt to the changing seasons using passive house systems. The house is built out of stone and breaks from the surrounding wood grid by facing south to receive the most sun during the winter to act as a thermal mass to heat and cool the house. Fitting into the wooden grid a polycarbonate structure surrounds the house creating a house within a greenhouse. In the winter temperatures inside the greenhouse can reach up to 70 degrees, perfect for growing fruits and vegetables. In the summer the polycarbonate is operable to let in outside air and prevent overheating. Surrounding trees and wild plants also help to shade and cool the space in the summer.
