Vertical Village

Vertical Village relates material reuse to structural and social repair – the project is a multigenerational housing proposal that leverages an existing structural skeleton in coordination with new and reused timber elements (CSLT). The building seeks to remedy new and old, moving away from traditional floorplates and loaded corridors that isolate inhabitants towards a more vertical circulation that connect individual units and floors. The building is organized into two nested villages with shared amenities and a central community core. A cascading ramp, functioning as an interior street, connects individual units, floors, and the building as a whole. Interaction through shared convenience, as opposed to pure program, dictate the design of the space.
