This project reimagines the Erie Canal as a network of care infrastructure. Instead of serving the movement of goods, the canal becomes a system for delivering healthcare and social support to post-industrial towns.
The proposal introduces a slow-moving boat adapted from an existing barge, combined with a series of small, mobile dock units distributed along the canal. Together, they provide spaces for rest, consultation, and basic medical services.
Focusing on towns like Amsterdam, Schenectady, and Albany, the project responds to uneven access to healthcare, aging populations, and the decline of industrial economies. By linking mobility with fixed local nodes, it creates a new spatial system where care becomes accessible, visible, and embedded in everyday life.
