Mora Relief Center: Plant-Based Insulation for Metal Rainscreen Facade

Project by: Oliver Babb, Simon Brock, Nora Kelly, Selin Kesaf, Tianrun Li, Brandy Nguyen

The TERRADACTYLE team chose Nora Kelly’s Mora Relief Center as a case study for construction and life cycle systems investigation. The Relief Center’s rainscreen facade allowed the team to experiment with wall structure, waterproofing, cladding, below-grade details, and unconventional insulation materials.

After consideration of carbon impact, cost, energy code, and construction logistics, the team designed a base-of-wall assembly consisting of HempWool insulation and zinc-plated metal cladding.
