The project’s water management system consists of two parts: (1) a water collection systems located on the rooftop farm and ground-level rain gardens and (2) a water treatment system located in the basement. First, sewage pipes transport all collected water to a filtration system so that large debris can be removed. Next, water is transported to the basement and undergoes the following treatments: grit removal, biological treatment, secondary treatment (also called activated sludge process), and disinfection. The sludge produced during the final step is used as fertilizer for the rooftop farm.
