East Long Island City, originally developed as a manufacturing center, is home to over a thousand business that provide 26,000 jobs. However, many institutions have become part of LIC, attracting thousands of people to the area. Despite its diverse demographic, East LIC fails to meet the basic needs of affordable retail, green space, safe pedestrian access, and lack of connectivity within the community. This project envisions creating an extension to a prominent community college through a network of connections to the business and industrial area situated near Dutch Kills Creek. This network knits together different programs that are accessible to the entire community such as shared working spaces, a business center, sports facilities, and more.
