This design proposal addresses the efficiency and exorbitance of New York’s on-street traffic situation by providing a vertical transit exchange facility, which functions as a 24/7 mixed-use neighborhood with infrastructural, commercial, and cultural programs, and as an extension of New York City’s midtown street life. With technology implementations such as electrical vehicles and autonomous vehicles, this project starts to imagine a new pattern of how the user experience of parking, charging and ride-sharing could be evolving, where supplementary programs like cafe or theater are being offered to achieve spatial and temporal efficiency under this vertical neighborhood. Different programs are designed and distributed strategically to create dynamic spatial relations both inside and outside, through structure and facade treatment. Ramps become the driving force in this project to create continuous, dynamic vertical movement, and invite other public programs into a vertical street-scape by utilizing the different slopes.
