Ground Floor Plan by Tim Zhou and Isaac Kim

Ground Floor Plan

Split Line Housing responds to the hard boundaries separating people from each other in the South Bronx by using simple gestures to recontextualize elements from traditional housing blocks, creating a project that is both open and secure. The spine, occupied by a central public market, weaves together residential and commercial programs on the ground level. The traditional double-loaded corridor is widened to create large residential atrium spaces located above public spaces. Inside each unit, moveable facade panels and a 2.5-foot floor shift enables unit customization and endows a sense of character and ownership.
