Galleries create isolated white-box spaces for artwork to be viewed and judged. Conversely, in the back of house, artworks are much more vibrant when they are transported, decorated, repaired, and so on. However, all of those forms of movement are not accessible to visitors, which to some degree makes the artwork incomplete. Our design process explores “motion” as the most important design strategy. The project focuses on the movement of both people and artwork. To achieve a special spatial experience, we create different scales and frequencies of motion for both people and artwork. Through the movement of art boxes being transported at varying frequencies, different types and styles of artwork create unprecedented dialogues and they can be reinterpreted in different contexts.
