This project examines the future of delivery technology and speculates on ways to accommodate swarms of drones bringing packages into Manhattan. Located at every neighborhood subway station, hive-like structures will be inserted with varying heights and densities to correspond with the neighborhood’s capacity. The structure is made up of pockets in which drones can leave a package. The package then waits for the arrival of its owner. Later, it will be carried down by interior carrier drones, controlled via an app on the owner’s phone. The new, dynamic environment accommodates swarms of drones from the sky above, and of people from the subway and street below. The design allows them to intermingle within, leading to a new, democratic public space that embraces the future of delivery and human interaction.
